A Change In My Creative Environment

In my blog post “Songwriting And Your Creative Environment” I discussed how having an organised and healthy life environment actually helps with your ability to write songs.

I’ve taken this concept one step further of late by shifting my home office to an external office and I’m loving the benefits of this move. I’ve been in my office for about three months now.

I was inspired to do this by a number of interviews I had read with songwriters who hire out office space and write from the hours of 9am until 5 pm.

Call me crazy but I’m a real creature of routine and in replicating this “9 to 5 Songwriting Office” concept I’ve found my ideal way of working and creating.

I’ve proven to myself how changing one facet of my life environment can make all the difference.

Some of the benefits I’ve found of having an external office are:

Sharper focus
Less distraction
A spare room in the house
Taxation advantages
Work is work and Home is home
More time with friends, family and my partner

At the moment my office is split into two distinct sections. First of all there’s the administration section where everything I do is run from. My business brain lives here.

The other section is where my creative/artistic brain thrives. I’m in the process of putting together a songwriting/podcasting/video studio.

This will really help with the expansion of my own music and Songwriting Zen.

I’m really excited about the changes I’m making in my work and home life. It’s all about addressing the work/home relationship balance that, for such a long time now, I’ve had real issues with.
