Welcome To Songwritingzen.Com
Today is the first official day of this new songwriting website called Songwriting Zen.
In it you’ll find songwriting tips, songwriting help and songwriting ideas all in one comprehensive songwriting resource.
In addition to that, this blog is also the official home of Corey Stewart (that’s me). I’m a singer/songwriter from Australia and for over twenty years I’ve been writing lots of songs, playing lots of gigs and having a great time along the way.
Through this blog I want to post my music, let you know about my gigs and keep you generally informed about all things Corey.
Even though Songwriting Zen is a songwriting resource and my online home, it’s also about you and your songwriting.
I realized early on in my career that I had a passion for helping other songwriters and musicians be the best that they can be.
Songwriting is a craft and the Music Business runs on networking. It’s my sincere hope that this site helps you in both of these important areas:
Perfecting your songwriting craft
Expanding your musical network
In my hometown of Adelaide, South Australia I run an online music marketing business called Orangutang Music. I also mentor up and coming songwriters. I want to use Songwriting Zen to expand these services to the world.
On the products front I’m planning three major projects.
1. Pre-production of my first CD.
2. The first draft of a Songwriting Zen book
3. Building a songwriting/podcasting studio
I want to use Songwrititng Zen to document the progress of these projects and to offer the fruits of my labour to you when completed.
The thing that I’m the most excited about is the Songwriting Zen Forum. It’s still in it’s early stages (and I’m also getting used to the phpBB software used in running it) but this forum gives everyone the opportunity to communicate directly with me and with each other.
As you’re well aware, I’m right into networking and fostering a sense community. I want the Songwriting Zen Forum to be the hub of a vibrant and creative community of songwriters, musicians and all creative types in between.
I know this site is called Songwriting Zen but the information contained in this site is of benefit to all. It’s my belief that writers and creative people of all genres and disciplines can all learn from each other.
To make communication and networking even easier there’s a links directory with lots of different sites to visit. I hope you find the songwriting, writing, creativity and music business resources as useful and inspiring as I do.
I will endeavour to add more links every week so come back often.
Songwriting Zen is a new website so there are going to be bugs and other things that don’t work. If you come across any other these things let me know
If you have any questions, enquiries, comments, feedback, thoughts, feelings, complaints or words of encouragement you can contact me here.
If you want to subscribe to my emailing list so you can be the first to know any important Songwriting Zen or Corey Stewart news you can do that here.
Lao Tzu once said that “a good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving”. I hope that you choose to walk with me along the path to wherever it is I’m heading. He also said that “the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”.
Well, I take my first step… NOW!
Until next time, happy writing,
Corey Stewart

Eastern philosophies and songwriting? More, please!
You’ve really got a knack for this Corey, and while I’ll probably be here all the while, I’m wishing you the best of luck on beginning your three major projects!
Just thought I’d let you know also that I started a Tumblrlog earlier this month @ http://charming.tumblr.com
It’s kind of whatever is flowing through my head and there’s a lot of songwriting-esque content like journal scraps, musings on my process, etc. Nothing serious, just more of a journal. I’ve noticed it might make me seem like an overly inward, emotional, twenty-three year old, but just having the blog has helped with writing in general.
Best,
Nol
Well, it’s not quite May 1st here in Austin, TX but within an hour it will be and a very fitting date to have Googled “Songwriting Blog” and found you, seeing as it’s the official launch of your new site. Congrats.
I’ve put you in my Favs and look forward to communing as I’ll be songwriting as long as I’m able.
Now for MY next step…
Tthanks for the inspiration.
Jannie
Hey Nolan, welcome aboard the Songwriting Zen express.
Thank you for the best wishes. I think 3 major projects at the same time maybe a tad too ambitious?
I really like your blog. I also like the way you describe it as “… this is shaping into an orphanage for my scribblings and snaps.”
I think I’ll be linking to this… right now.
Blogging and journalling really helps me with my writing too. It’s a discipline thing.
Corey
Hi Jannie Sue,
Thanks for stopping by. I realize that due to time differences, May 1st comes a day later in your part of the world. Oh well, you’ll eventually get there
I’m very glad that you find this site useful to your songwriting needs. Oh, BTW, I’ve linked to your website too.
You must tell me one day the story of your rabid Emu and three legged goat adventures. I’m sure there’s a song in there somewhere.
Keep on writing,
Corey
Hi Corey!
Congratulations! I’ve been catching up on your posts all week. I like the layout you have here and all week long I’ve been inspired by reading your posts. It’s great that you’re drafting a Songwriting Zen book! Thanks for thanking me in your last post on WP; it’s great to be part of the community you’ve brought together here.

Hi Mychelle welcome back. I was wondering where you’d gotten to. I missed you.
I’m glad that you find all of this songwriting information inspiring. That’s what Songwriting Zen is all about.
Here’s to writing new songs,
Corey
